Victor Vasarely developed a style of art that became known as “Op Art.” Op is a shortened version of “optical,” referring to the fact that the art was designed to delight our eyes. For Vasarely, Op Art meant an interest in the ways that shapes and colors could create a sense of movement or distortion—visual illusions. By the 1960s his work was known throughout the world.
