This capsule exhibition of artworks from the Art Center’s permanent collection celebrates the art of ceramics. Fired clay pots, plates and cups have been part of human history for thousands of years, used for both everyday objects and artistic expression. What ceramics pieces do you have in your home? Here, you’ll see a range from beautifully crafted pots to more sculptural forms that push the boundaries of traditional ceramics and glazes. From smooth, delicate porcelain to rough, textured stoneware, every piece tells its own story through the artist’s use of firing techniques and glazes.

Some pieces were made by hand, while others are shaped on the wheel. You’ll notice a variety of glazes, patterns, and finishes, each bringing out different qualities in the clay. Whether inspired by nature, personal experiences, or modern life, these pieces encapsulate the joy of creating something by hand—from the soft, raw clay to the intense heat of the kiln that turns it into a finished piece.

The Sioux City Art Center offers ceramic classes and private lessons for students of all ages. Contact the Education Department at 712-279-6580 or visit www.siouxcityartcenter.org
