Savannah Berlyn Anderson’s powwow portraits focus on the people and regalia that are part of contemporary powwow culture on the Winnebago Reservation. Her photographs, shot on site during the 2026 Powwow, give close attention to each sitter, showing the pride they take in what they wear while keeping the individual at the center of the image. The portraits reflect both traditional and contemporary approaches to regalia, with each person bringing their own style and presence to the photograph.

Examples of regalia shown alongside the photographs give visitors a closer look at the materials and craftsmanship seen throughout Anderson’s work. A pair of moccasins from her Moccasin Portraits series shows the care and time that goes into making each piece. By photographing moccasins as carefully as she photographs people, Anderson shows how these objects can also tell us something about the person who made and wears them.
