The Sioux City Art Center is pleased to present the newest installment of Briar Cliff Review. This annual exhibition of artworks by local, regional, and national artists, were selected for the 2023 edition of The Briar Cliff Review, Briar Cliff University’s award-winning journal. This long-running and well-respected annual publication, now celebrating its 35th and final year, focuses on poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and visual art. The artworks included in this exhibition were selected in a collaborative effort between Jeff Baldus, professor of art at Briar Cliff University, who serves as the art editor of The Briar Cliff Review, and Christopher Atkins, curator of the Sioux City Art Center. The artists represented in both the journal and the exhibition are active professional artists with connections to Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, as well as art students at Siouxland area colleges and universities. The diversity of work in this exhibition is deliberate, allowing viewers a chance to see a variety of artists who are connected by their commitment to produce work of high quality. The artwork in The Briar Cliff Review Exhibition features different materials, sizes, and artistic visions—collectively they represent many of the ways in which artists are working today.
