Reception
This exhibition will feature portraits by some of the Midwest-regions most innovative artists. Julie Blackmon, Rachel Cox, Heidi Draley McFall, Pao Houa Her, Areca Roe are all photographers or use photo-based media in their work. They each have a distinct creative voice, but this exhibition will be the first time they have shown together and highlight some of the formal and conceptual overlaps in their work.
The artists and artwork featured in Close to Me continue the rich tradition of portraiture while pushing what the format can be. They do so by offering a fresh and compelling look at how we see and understand ourselves.
This exhibition and related programming is presented in conjunction with the “Women in the Arts” festival, co-organized with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra.
Join us at the Art Center on Thursday, January 23, 2024, from 5-7pm for a free reception with complimentary beer, wine, soda, and appetizers.
