Larassa Kabel is an interdisciplinary artist who uses drawing, painting, sculpture, performance and photography to explore mortality, nature, connection and community. Throughout her career she has scrutinized how death and loss are universally shared but not easily acknowledged feelings. Because grief often makes people feel isolated, this exhibition is a way to share stories and build community for people who have experienced loss. Sojourn will be her largest solo exhibition to date and will feature her most recent work, including an exciting series of prints that continue her investigation of human and animal connections.
Kabel lives and works in Des Moines, Iowa. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is in several private and corporate collections, including the White House, the World Food Prize and the Des Moines Art Center. She is an Iowa Arts Council Fellow, has received multiple nominations for the Joan Mitchell and USA Fellowships, and has upcoming shows in Iowa and North Carolina. She recently founded Lost and Found, an alternative gallery space that presents international exhibitions.
